I was delighted by the beautiful look of the newly renovated Church restaurant but the food and service were truly terrible. Go there at your peril. I live in England and love returning home for some real food but I was only reminded of the type of cheap pub grub which the English are renowned for at this restaurant. We booked a week in advance and despite the fact that there appears to be lots of staff we waited with our guests for quite a while to be seated. There were five of us in total and we gave our order. The food arrived in stages, our guests firstly who insisted upon waiting for the rest to arrive and was thus cold, the remainder arrived in 2 groups 5 minutes apart. I would describe the meals as plates of mush with fatty gravey and butter. Definately not Irish cusine to match the surroundings. The waitress did not know how to pour wine – its not that hard! and to add insult to injury the bill was dumped between our guests while we were eating the meal. When we complained we were told that it was policy yet there are numbers on the tables or maybe a discreet dish to put the bills in might be a help. Again the desert bill was dumped between our guests while they were eating the desert. The deserts were pricey and small. Finally, after dumping 2 bills on our table one has to pay downstairs at the counter so I dont see the point at all of being so rude. Finally the tip cannot be put on the credit/debit card so the inexperienced waitress lost out. We felt sorry for her. Too many chiefs and chaos – We will never return.

Some of the papers are held in the National Library in Dublin and some are in the library in Dungarvan. Unfortunately, as far as I know, you will have to visit the libraries in person to delve through these records.

my family was listed in these records back to 1705. In tallow co waterford. How can I get a copy of this anciant record. Also, do they state were they are from in an old lease or deed.

This photo was taken in Ballymodan Place as you correctly point out and that is the Old Garda Station in the distance which is now a solicitors office (PJ O’Driscoll). There is a pipe band still in the town but I am not sure if it is called the FCA.

Was this photo taken in Balymodan Place. I seem to recognise the old Garda Station and part of Sth. Main St.
I used to live there a long time ago in a house owned by a Mrs. Roddy, opposite the Church near Gallows Hill.
Later on I was a member of the FCA Pipe Band. Whatever happened to it?

I think that Dev deserves a place on this list. Economy was pretty bad under Haughey also. I would not be Dev’s biggest fan but he kept us out a a war where we could have had thousands, if not tens of thousands, killed.

I’ll have to do some digging to figure out if there is a review process. Certainly some projects that receive grant aid fall by the wayside. Paint a Pot cafe and pottery venture which set up in Bandon a few years ago received at least a euro 10,000 grant for a potting kiln but that closed down last year. I wonder who benefitted from the proceeds of the sale of the kiln? Something tells me that it wasn’t the organisation that advanced the grant.

That’s really shocking information. To my mind only the Angler’s grant qualifies in Bandon.

How can the Leisure Centre get a grant when only annual-fee-paying members can use the facility? Looks like another programme with lots of money to spend and not enough genuine projects to spend it on. Do they have any sort of review process on the money they have spent after 6 months, 1 year, 3 years etc? Any way to claw back grants if terms and conditions are not met?
